About Us

I founded Rolling R3 Ranch in 1995 with three ambitious objectives: 1) to conduct business with the highest quality ethics possible, 2) to create a superior registered black angus seed stock operation, and 3) to operate with the best health, environmental and land stewardship practices available. From a very modest beginning, our ranch has grown to over 700 high quality registered females on 3500 acres of prime Oklahoma range. While I view our objectives as a guide to how we conduct business, rather than a definitive end result that once obtained ceases to be important, I do believe we have achieved significant success in our short history.

A defining moment in the history of our ranch was in 1999, when we purchased the entire C&C Cattle Co. angus herd from Jarold and Jennifer Callahan. Jarold had developed his herd with objectives we had also chosen - emphasis on a select group of sire and dam families using multiple trait selection criteria, and these females, along with some powerful donors purchased from some of the top programs nationally, make up the backbone of our herd.

We emphasize high growth genetics in a moderate frame package. We select for low birth weight EPD, typically in the 2.0 - 2.5 pound range or less, with as much yearling weight as possible. We also want bulls with adequate milk EPD. Carcass EPD's are essential, and we will not breed without positive marbling and ribeye area traits. Last, but not least, our females have to do the job, and we place great emphasis on cow fertility, udder quality and longevity. Through an extensive disciplined culling program, or goal is to have a herd where each animal possesses EPD's in the top 25% of breed.

Our program consists primarily of AI and embryo transplant, with a spring and fall calving program. We currently participate in each OBI Bull Test with up to ten prospective herd sires to have real time, independent evaluation of our program. We are developing a comprehensive bull program that will offer up to 250 quality, service age bulls annually. To experience "real time" the problems and challenges of our commercial customers, we feed cattle in several locations with up to 1,000 head on feed at any one time.

Please come by and see us. Our ranch headquarters are located 15 miles east of I-35 Exit 157 (Guthrie Exit) on Highway 105 to County Line Road, and then 1 mile south. We have replacement heifers (open and bred), show heifer prospects, bulls and high quality donor embryos and pregnancies available at all times. Our staff is anxious to assist you in any way. Please feel free to contact our herd manager, Ron Runner, or Jason Shepard, Eric Lynch or myself with any questions.
